Today has felt like a shibari kind of day. I've spent much of the day looking at knots, ties, splices and various forms of binding.
I've seen informational videos on creating survival bracelets from paracord, corselet harnesses and panty harnesses, handcuffs, pendants, pentacle harnesses, restraints, bracers - what's with wearing rope bracers or "rigger gauntlets" as they call them?
I've seen collars and bars, and self-defence weapons, and homemade scourges and decorative adornments fashioned from knotted rope. Turk's heads and millipede and cobra stitching, monkey fists tied around one inch steel ball bearings for massive haft, ball gags and bit gags made the same way as one would tie a hangman's noose knot.
I know a few overhand knots, and how to tie a square knot, a basic hitch and how to tie a handcuff knot (aka "bosun's chair") and traditional hangman's noose (thirteen turns with a left hand twist) - but these videos have opened my eyes and made me wonder what other knots I could try out.
Tomorrow, I'll start asking around. I'd love to find out where I can get the requisite lengths of good, solid yet soft rope so I can get back into practice. Been a while since I did knot tying, and I'd like to recall the old skills, get them back to work for me again.
