I calibrate my clients' responsiveness to my instructions by giving them the same basic test. Five basic questions.
1. There is a flower in front of you. Can you see it?
2. Describe it to me. Describe the leaves, the stem, the petals.
3. Pick it up. Can you feel it in your hand? How does the stem feel? Is it rough, smooth, woody, tough, fragile? Is it cool, warm?
4. Bring the flower to your nose and smell it. Describe its aroma.
5. Brush your cheek with the flower head. Describe the texture of the petals against your face.
These five questions allow me to gauge how deeply into a trance my clients have gone, and how well their instructions have taken.
